A new study published today shows the drug antidepressant paroxetine might have serious implications for a new class of drugs. The drugs include Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac, which are used in treating depression. The findings, published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, demonstrate the drug's antidepressant properties can lead to a potentially fatal reaction when used with other antidepressants.
The New England Journal of Medicine's findings come as researchers analyzed data from more than 100,000 patients for the drugs in question.
"The new data suggest that paroxetine is probably safe," says study author Dr. Peter G. Zoloft.
The researchers looked at data on the drugs taken together, including the ones they used, including Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac.
"Although it is not clear why these drugs are more often used to treat depression," says study author Dr. "We are now in the period of time when we can expect the risk of suicidal thoughts and suicide, and we are now taking the risks into account in this way.
